Founded in 2010 by childhood friends Ralph Barbosa & William Valentin in the South Bronx. Coming from a family tradition of making Pitorro, Puerto Rican moonshine, they decided what better way was there to continue that tradition than by legally? With the help of a one time moonshiner and now the master distiller behind PMD, their uncle "Tio" Rafael, from Guayama, Puerto Rico.
Pitorro, the moonshine of Puerto Rico, has been produced since the 1600's with a primary ingredient of sugar cane, a product grown widely in Puerto Rico at the time. Although sometimes considered a rum, there have been so many family recipes with varying sugar sources, it is better to describe Pitorro as a class of spirits unto itself.
Port Morris Distillery's Pitorro is distilled primarily from New York apples, New York honey and brown sugar for extra sugar source.
